Michelle Lopez
Pueblo, CO
(b. 1973, Massachusetts)

Michelle Lopez is a visual artist and illustrator whose work reflects a life shaped by movement, motherhood, and a deep connection to nature. Born in Massachusetts and raised between the East Coast, Spain, and South America, Michelle spent two decades in Colombia before relocating to Colorado in 2022 to be closer to family and the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains.

She earned her BFA from Florida Atlantic University, originally focusing on still life's, the female figure, and oil painting. Her artistic path shifted when her children introduced her to the world of illustrated books—a creative avenue that now heavily influences her vibrant style.

Michelle currently paints using watercolors, acrylics, and conte crayon on wood laminate. Her subject matter ranges from South American birds to Colorado’s local wildlife and landscapes. Her work often blends illustration with fine art, drawing inspiration from the natural world after years of urban living.

She has illustrated several books, including Kumico by Rosa Adriana Buriticá, El País De Las Pirámides by María García Esperón, El Reino De Mar by Paloma Orozco Amorós, Animores, animales y amores by Celso Román, La Escoba De La Profe Josefina by Blanca Alvarez, and Sankac, El Adivino by Nora Carbonell.
