Ever wanted to work with fire and metal? Now’s your chance! Our resident metal artist, Polo Gonzalez, is offering an 8-week Introduction to Welding & Metal Sculpture class/WORKSHOP —designed for beginners looking to explore welding as an art form.

BASIC WELDING & ART METALS/WORKSHOP COURSE OVERVIEW:
- Curriculum/Syllabus (Complete)
- 8 week course, 2.5 hour class, once a week. (Open to extending to 3 hrs when/if necessary)
- $300.00 per student (upfront)
Or
- $125.00 weekly payment under “payment plan” for the first 3 weeks with a “commitment to
attend” contract from any students requesting to pay using the “payment plan”. Payment will
be due upon the beginning of class each week.

- Liability Waiver (To be provided by Blo Back Gallery and signed by each student)
- Basic supply list to be provided by each student:
1.) Stick welding gloves and work gloves
2.) Safety glasses
3.) Wire welders brush
4.) Long sleeve flannel or canvas shirt, welding jacket, or apron
5.) Welding hood: fixed shade or auto-darkening (Hoods can be provided on “loan” for
students for each class, but it is encouraged to bring their own.)
** General Air (local welding supply store/518 W 2nd St, Pueblo, CO 81003) will provide
registered students a student discount of 10% toward the purchase of welding supplies and
PPE!

8-Week Basic Welding Art Class/Workshop Curriculum
Class Duration: 8 Weeks, 2.5 hours per session
Week 1: Introduction to Welding & Safety
• Overview of welding as an art form
• Safety protocols: PPE, fire hazards, ventilation
•Introduction to welding equipment: Primarily focusing on
STICK welding and demonstrations in MIG & TIG welding
machines, hardware and techniques.
• Hands-on: Basic torch control, tack welds, and basic bead
running.
Week 2: Metal Selection & Cutting Techniques
• Understanding steel.
•Cutting methods: angle grinder, plasma cutter, and manual
shear.
• Hands-on: Practicing straight and curved cuts on scrap
metal
Week 3: Basic Welding Joints & Beads
•Common joint types: butt, lap, and T-joint
• How to run a bead and control heat
• Hands-on: Practicing welds on different joints
Week 4: Metal Shaping & Forming
•Introduction to hammers, anvils, and bending tools
• Techniques for shaping metal for artistic designs
• Hands-on: Creating simple curves and bends
Week 5: Welding Small Art Projects
• Design brainstorming and sketching
•Choosing materials and planning welds
• Hands-on: Creating a small welded sculpture
Week 6: Grinding, Finishing & Texturing
• Using grinders and sanders for finishing welds
• Adding textures and patinas to metal surfaces
• Hands-on: Finishing techniques on student projects
Week 7: Advanced Techniques & Project Work
• Welding found objects into art pieces
• Layering and adding depth to metal art
• Hands-on: Continuing and refining personal projects
Week 8: Finalizing & Showcasing Work
• Final welds, finishing touches, and grinding
• Group critique and troubleshooting techniques
• Setting up a class art showcase
