One Hundred Years of Art, Sisterhood, and Soul: Celebrating Alpha Mu Delta in Pueblo

Tonight, as the lights dim and voices rise in rhythm and verse, a century of passion, purpose, and artistry comes alive. Alpha Mu Delta, Pueblo’s historic service sorority rooted in the celebration and elevation of the arts, marks its 100th anniversary with a two-gallery show and a stirring night of live performance. It’s more than a milestone — it’s a living, breathing reminder of what can happen when creative minds and open hearts come together in service to something greater than themselves.
Founded in 1925, Alpha Mu Delta (AMD) was built on the simple but powerful idea that art matters. For one hundred years, its members have worked tirelessly — often quietly — to support artists, organize events, raise funds for youth art programs, and show up when others couldn’t or didn’t. What binds them isn’t just a love of creativity, but a belief in its transformative power.
“We’ve always been a sisterhood of service through the arts,” says longtime member and event organizer Marla E., “but it’s not about prestige or tradition for us — it’s about creating opportunities. About making space for voices, especially the ones that feel unheard.”

Tonight’s performance night is the heart of this celebration. Expect art. Expect dance, drama (plenty of drama — the good kind), poetry readings, laughter, and maybe even a few tears. There will be wine, refreshments, and an open door for anyone willing to lean into the moment. But more than that, it’s a chance to witness something rare: a community lifting each other up, simply because they can.
The two-gallery group show — running through the end of May — features both current AMD members and alumni, spanning mediums from painting and sculpture to fiber art and photography. It’s a radiant reminder of how layered and lasting their impact has been. Many of these artists have worked quietly in the margins of Pueblo’s art scene, shaping it in subtle, foundational ways. Others are just emerging, full of fire and purpose. Together, they’re telling a hundred years of stories.
In a time when art spaces are disappearing and communities often feel fractured, AMD’s presence is more vital than ever. They’ve shown up for Pueblo — for our youth, our elders, our artists — for a hundred years. Now it’s time we show up for them.
So come. Celebrate. Sip the wine. Feel the joy. Let the words sink in. Whether you join us tonight ( May 14th) at 6 PM or stop by the gallery sometime this month, let this be a reminder that art is still sacred. And so is community.
Happy Centennial, Alpha Mu Delta. Pueblo is better because of you.
